YOUTH DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS

 

Applications are required to participate in PCC Youth Programs.  You can stop in, call us at 323-1942 and we will mail or fax you an application,

or you can download the application through this link:  Youth Intake Form - updated 2011  The Intake Form can be emailed to

Tutoring for K-12 Students 

                                                             

 

           PCC offers tutoring for elementary through high school for students. The program utilizes volunteer tutors who include professionals from the

           community, students from local colleges, as well as high performing high school students. If interested in volunteering as a tutor or need more information,

           please call Diane at 323-1942 or email her at diane@portagecommunitycenter.net.

 

 

 The Center - After School Program for Middle School Students

 

                              

 

          Open after school Monday - Thursday from 3:00pm to 6:00pm, Friday from 3:00pm to 5:00pm (open during the school year only).  The Center is

          supervised by PCC staff.  Programs and activities address good decision making, substance abuse awareness, and other pertinent topics.  Students must

          be registered to attend.  For more information, contact Ruth or Stacey.  Students can be registered on-line by clicking on the Youth Intake Form above

          and emailing it to Ruth or Stacey.

Summer Middle School Recreation Program  

     

        

PCC puts on a summer program every year for middle school students. This summer the dates will be June 14th - August 18th.  The program meets Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 12noon to 4:00pm for 10 weeks.  Please contact Ruth or Stacey for more information.  You can register on-line by completing the Youth Intake Form at the top of this page and emailing it to either Ruth or Stacey.

City Of Portage Summer Program Scholarships

The City of Portage has established a Youth Recreation Scholarship Program that will provide full and half scholarships for income qualifying youths, under the age of 18, for selected programs- sponsored by the Parks and Recreation Department. Interested families should contact Ruth or Tia. 

Substance Abuse Awareness

                                                         

 

PCC offers a prevention/education program to middle school students regarding substance abuse issues, with a focus on alcohol and tobacco use and abuse. Please call Ruth for more information.

 

Volunteer Opportunities

                                                                

      Volunteer opportunities are available for young people on an as needed basis.  Call Ruth for more information.

 VolunTEENS

This is a summer project in collaboration with the Volunteer Center that places local students in different agencies throughout the community to help with different tasks such as clerical, computers, and outdoor projects. Please call the Volunteer Center at 382-8350 for more information.

Project L.I.F.T. (Larceny Intervention For Teens)

LIFT is a diversion program in collaboration with the Portage Police, Portage Family Court, and the Portage Retail Fraud Association that targets minors who have shoplifted for the first time. LIFT requires students and their parents to attend a class in a court room where they are educated as to the reprocussions of shoplifting. Please contact Ruth for more information.

 

Community Service - for Youth

Community service for PCC falls into four categories.

  • Court ordered service - students are required to perform community service by the courts for infractions of the law.
  • School ordered service - students are required to perform community service due to a disciplinary problem in school.
  • School assigned service - local schools require students to perform a certain amount of community service hours.
